Real Magnet’s tracking capabilities have been improved dramatically with this upgrade. In addition to an enhanced graphic look and a few other bells and whistles, we’ve added domain level tracking.
To access a message’s tracking report, click the Track tab in the top navigation.
This takes you to the Tracking Home Page, featuring Real Magnet’s new grid view format. These grids are found throughout the new application, perhaps most notably on the home pages of each Real Magnet tab. The screen shots below compare the old and new Track Home Pages:
Before: Track Home Page

After: Track Home Page

You control what information is displayed in any grid. The columns are customizable and can be added or removed by selecting the Add/Remove Columns icon
. From the pop-in menu, select the columns you want displayed and deselect the ones you want hidden. The page will update after you click Submit.
Columns can be repositioned by dragging and dropping them to your desired location. And you can sort the data by any column (ascending or descending) by clicking on the column label.
Use the new search feature – located in the upper right corner – to filter the grid by a search term(s). Simply insert a search term, click the search icon, and any asset not containing the search term is filtered out.
Icons in upper left corner perform these functions:
Track a message
. Click once on the message you want to track and click the Track button. You’re taken to main Tracking Overview page for that message.
Save As
. Click once on the message you want to copy, click the Save As icon, and a pop-in will appear where you add a name for the new copy. Click Submit and the new copy is saved.
Delete a message
. Select the message you want to delete once and click the Delete icon. A confirmation pop-in is displayed. Click Delete and the asset is deleted.
Click the new Details
icon and a pop-in is displayed with top line information on the message. Additionally, icons displayed across the top give you quick access to preview the message, track the message, send the message to individuals, and send the message to groups.

Accessing the Tracking for a Message
To access a message’s tracking, from the Tracking Home Page grid, either click one time on the message line item you want to track and then click the Track icon
, or click two times on the message line item. This puts on the message Tracking Overview page.
A message’s Tracking Overview page will contain at least 3 sections – Job Details, Message Sent Results, and Domain Level Tracking. Depending on the services you’re leveraging (for example, Real Magnet tracks fax broadcasts, Share with Your Network activity, SMS messaging, etc.) other sections may appear as well.

Job Details
Under this section, the message’s “From Field” and subject line are displayed. Additionally, a line item is displayed for each group the message was sent to (you’re able to send to multiple groups). For each group, you’ll see values for the group name, date sent, time sent, and a filter icon.
The filter function
allows you to filter the entire job tracking by an individual group. When clicked, the Overview Tracking Page will display results for that group ONLY.
Message Sent Results
For each line item, a raw number, bar chart, and percentage is displayed. Click any of the Details icons
and recipient level report for that specific metric is generated (i.e. who opened, who clicked, who unsubscribed, etc.). Click the Graph icon
and a pie chart or histogram of the specific metric is generated.
Additional functionality, located in the left part of this section, gives you a Preview of the message and a display of its Click-View Tracking results. Click View tracking displays the number of times links were clicked in a concise, snapshot view.
Domain Level Tracking
The third section of the Tracking Overview Page contains your message’s domain level tracking, one of the major new upgrades to Real Magnet. This capability let’s you track the success of your campaigns at the domain level.
By default, Real Magnet tracks these domains:
- AOL
- Gmail
- Hotmail
- MSN
- Yahoo
- Verizon
The domain tracking grid also contains a line item for others, which is an aggregation of all domains sent to in the email broadcast, less those domains that are tracked individually. (Note: Domain level tracking is not Real Time. Results will be displayed the following day).
Also note the three icons in the upper right corner, which allow you to view a graphic display of the data
(see screen shot below), toggle between raw numbers and percentages
, and export the data
.

A powerful dimension of Real Magnet’s domain tracking is the capability to track up to 25 custom domains (in addition to the defaults) that are important to you. To add custom domains to your domain level tracking:
- Click the Tools tab in the top navigation
- Next, select Account Management in the left navigation pane
- Next, select the Domain Tracking option. This puts you on the main domain tracking management page.

At the top of the page, in the text box beneath Add a domain to tracking list, input the new domain you want track, and click the GO button. This adds the domain to your tracking.
Under the Real Magnet Default Domains section, you can choose to track (or not to track) the default domains by adding or removing a check to the check boxes associated with the default domains. Similarly, you can track (or not track) your custom domains by taking the same action in the Custom Domains section. You also may delete a custom domain all together by clicking the Delete icon
under the Remove Domain column.
This completes this tutorial. Throughout the months of April and May, Real Magnet is offering multiple webinars demonstrating the new redesign. They’re free so click here to register.
